Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how AppNation ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and shares your information when you use our products and services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use the Service. For our Terms of Use, please visit https://pdfmaker.to/terms.
Data Categories We Collect
-
Documents & File Metadata:
- When you use our PDF tools (compression, conversion, merging, page extraction, or rotation), we temporarily process the files you upload—including PDFs, images (JPEG, PNG), Word documents (DOCX), Excel spreadsheets (XLSX), and PowerPoint presentations (PPTX). These files are processed solely to perform the requested operation and are not used for any other purpose.
- We also collect file metadata such as file name, file size, page count, file format, and timestamps associated with each operation. This metadata is used to deliver the service and generate usage statistics.
-
Account Information:
- If you create an account or subscribe to premium features, we may collect your email address, display name, and profile preferences. Some information is optional.
-
Device Information & Identifiers:
- We collect device-level information including device model, manufacturer, operating system and version, screen resolution, language and locale settings, time zone, and app version.
- We may collect device identifiers such as Advertising ID (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android), Firebase Installation ID, Android ID, and anonymized hardware identifiers. These are used for analytics, advertising attribution, and fraud prevention.
-
App Activity & Usage Data:
- We collect information about how you interact with the app, including which features you use (e.g., compress, convert, merge, extract, rotate), frequency of use, session duration, timestamps, in-app navigation paths, and conversion history (file type converted from/to).
- Session identifiers and user interaction events are logged to help us understand usage patterns and improve the Service.
-
Diagnostics & Performance Data:
- Crash logs, error reports, and performance diagnostics (such as app launch time, processing duration, CPU/memory usage, battery state, and available storage) are collected automatically to help us identify and fix issues.
- Debug payloads may incidentally contain device context, stack traces, and app state information at the time of an error.
-
Network & Location Data:
- We collect your IP address, network type (Wi-Fi, cellular), carrier information, and connection quality. Your IP address may be used to derive your approximate location (city or country level). We do not collect precise GPS location.
-
Advertising & Analytics Data:
- If the app displays advertisements, advertising networks may collect your Advertising ID, ad interaction data (impressions, clicks), and aggregated interest segments to serve relevant ads. You can reset your Advertising ID or opt out of personalized ads through your device settings.
- Third-party analytics SDKs (such as Firebase Analytics or similar services) may collect anonymized usage events, session data, and demographic estimates (age range, gender) to help us understand our user base.
-
AI Chat & Assistant Data:
- The app includes AI-powered chat and assistant features provided by third-party AI services, including OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Anthropic (Claude). When you use these features, we collect and transmit the text prompts, questions, and instructions you submit, as well as any documents or file content you choose to share with the AI assistant.
- AI-generated responses, conversation history, session identifiers, and interaction metadata (such as timestamps, message length, and feature used) are collected to deliver the service and improve the user experience.
- We may also collect the AI model version used, token usage counts, response latency, and error codes for diagnostics and billing purposes.
-
Push Notification Tokens:
- If you enable push notifications, we collect your device push token to deliver notifications about completed operations, feature updates, or promotional offers. You can disable notifications through your device settings at any time.
-
Payment & Purchase Information:
- If you purchase a subscription or premium feature, payment details (e.g., credit card number, billing address) are transmitted securely to trusted third-party payment processors (Apple App Store or Google Play). We do not store or directly process your sensitive payment details.
- We retain records of your purchases including transaction ID, date/time, amount, product identifier, and subscription status for account management and support purposes.
How We Use Your Information (Usage Purposes)
- To provide the Service: Process your uploaded documents to perform the PDF operations you request, such as compression, format conversion, merging, page extraction, and rotation. When you use AI-powered features, your prompts and relevant document content are transmitted to third-party AI providers (OpenAI and Anthropic) to generate responses and perform the tasks you request.
- To manage your account: Verify your identity, manage your subscription, and enable access to premium features.
- To improve the Service: Analyze aggregated usage patterns, app activity events, and performance diagnostics to troubleshoot issues, fix bugs, and develop new features.
- To communicate with you: Send push notifications about completed operations, service-related updates, and administrative messages. With your consent, we may also send promotional materials (you can opt out at any time by emailing hello@appnation.co or through your device notification settings).
- To display advertisements: If the app includes ads, we use your Advertising ID and aggregated interest data to serve relevant advertisements through third-party advertising networks.
- For analytics: We use analytics SDKs to collect anonymized usage events, session data, and demographic estimates to understand how our app is used and to measure feature performance.
- To ensure security: Use device identifiers, IP address, and app activity data to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, rate-limit violations, or unauthorized access to the Service.
- To comply with legal obligations: Respond to legal process, enforce our Terms, or comply with applicable laws and government requests.
Data Retention
- Uploaded Documents & File Metadata: Files you upload for processing (PDFs, images, Word, Excel, PowerPoint files) and their associated metadata are automatically deleted from our servers within 30 days of upload. We do not retain your documents beyond this period.
- Account Information: Your account data (email, name, subscription status) is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will erase your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
- AI Chat & Conversation Data: Your conversation history, prompts, and AI-generated responses are retained for up to 30 days on our servers to provide continuity within your sessions. Data transmitted to third-party AI providers (OpenAI and Anthropic) is subject to their respective retention policies. We do not use your prompts or conversations to train AI models.
- Device Identifiers & App Activity: Device identifiers, session logs, and in-app activity data are retained for up to 24 months for analytics and fraud prevention purposes, after which they are deleted or anonymized.
- Diagnostics & Crash Logs: Crash reports, error logs, and performance diagnostics are retained for up to 12 months to help us identify and resolve issues.
- Analytics & Advertising Data: Anonymized analytics events and advertising interaction data are retained according to the respective third-party provider's retention policies (typically 14–26 months). You can reset your Advertising ID or opt out of personalized ads through your device settings.
- Push Notification Tokens: Device push tokens are retained for as long as you have notifications enabled. Tokens are removed when you uninstall the app or disable notifications.
- Purchase Records: Transaction records (transaction ID, date, amount, subscription status) are retained for as long as required for accounting, tax, and legal compliance purposes.
